This course is ideal for those seeking a creative, three -dimensional, hands-on, and relaxing art experience.
Your instructor for the Papier-Mache class, Diane Rowen Garmire, is a retired art teacher and professional fiber artist, painter, and illustrator. She regularly exhibits and teaches at the New Moon Art Gallery. Learn more at www.dianesraven.com.
All materials will be supplied. Paper mache, while somewhat messy, is easily washed out of any clothing; however, it is recommended to wear an apron during this class. In the introductory session, participants will design whimsical, bird-inspired figures. The objective is to encourage creativity while developing skills in both strip and pulp application techniques.
This is what you will learn:
Materials & Paste: How to mix alternative paste products and choose papers for adornment.
Building Armatures: Creating basic forms with wire, cardboard, or balloons for structure.
Techniques: Both the strip method (layering paper) and pulp method (creating a clay-like substance).
Sculpting: Applying layers, building details, and smoothing surfaces.
Finishing: Painting, waxing, adding features, and sealing your artwork.
